21st June 1944. The fact of Verniana

“The document reports several testimonies about what happened on the day after the facts of the Working Men's Club of Civitella, on 18st June 1944. They mainly concern the strategy followed by the partisans in the stretch of road between San Pancrazio and Monte San Savino, known as via dei Procacci. There are the testimonies of Edoardo Succhielli, Sergio Cencini (Tom), Amaddio Romanelli, Loredana Tedeschi. It also reports some results of the research conducted by Carlo Gentile in 1998 on behalf of the Municipalities of Bucine, Civitella, Cavriglia and Stia. Some Memories of Violetto, Perolino and Rina follow; all of them related to the facts of Mulino di Verniana. A cartography of the area is attached. The event is also reported in the volume by R. Moretti on the slaughter of San Pancrazio.”

“Here are reported information required by the Public Prosecutor's Office of La Spezia about 28 soldiers allegedly involved in the slaughter of Civitella, Cornia and San Pancrazio. There are also reported additional information about other 16 soldiers of regiments stationing in the territory of Arezzo in the summer of 1944, including some involved in the slaughter happened in San Polo (Arezzo) on 14th July, sent by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Giessen that investigated the case.”

The file also contains Max Milde's identification document of Max Milde, sentenced to life imprisonment for the slaughter of Civitella, Cornia and San Pancrazio, commander of the company and director of the musical band of the department of the Hermann Goering. Public Prosecutor's Office of La Spezia, 16th August 2004, marshal Angelo Angelillo's notes about the records concerning Gerhard Wolf's examination.

“Reference is made to some parts of the minutes drawn up on 05.07.2004, that is page 6, that describe an action taken against the partisans in which Wolf himself took part. It seems to be about Cornia. Pages 2 and 3 with the description of the places and the happened facts are quoted as well as page 5 where reference to the talks of Wolf with journalist Kohl is made.”

It contains many details not only about the soldiers' identity, but also about the happened facts on 29.06.1944.”

Here it is also quoted a text by Carlo Gentile on Vallucciole and on the 1000 victims in the Province of Arezzo.””

“List of the positions held by the officers of the armoured parachuting Division "H.G." on 01.07.1944 in two copies for the General Command of General Staff. There are also quoted the three "levels of alert" in case of enemy threat with the names in code and the relevant indications. In the Level of Alert 1 also the "Annihilation and the Attack of Italian bands" is included.”

“At the transmission there were: the journalist Christiane Kohl, Mrs Ida Balò and a German man called Edwin whose identity is declared to be unknown by the Public Prosecutor's Office of La Spezia. He was a soldier of the Werhmacht who was in Civitella immediately after the slaughter.”

“It contains the transcription by the Proxy of Dortmund of the notes of the interviews conducted by the journalist C. Kohl to 68 witnesses of the slaughter of Civitella, Cornia, San Pancrazio. The witnesses are both survivors or the victims' relatives and former German soldiers present in the places of the slaughter of 29 June 1944. The texts are in Italian.”
