The Week and Workshop for Peace |
Since 2001 Municipality of Bucine has been organizing the Week for Peace, with the aim of offering young generations models of alternative behavior connected to the education to peace, considered not only as absence of wars, but also as continuous search for human rights' protection, fair and equal relations between the different parts of the Earth, dialogue and co-existence among the diversities, balanced and responsible use of natural resources of our planet, sustainable development.
During this week, the Workshop for Peace has been organized for young people living in Bucine territory, with the participation of the survivors and witnesses of the Nazi slaughters committed in San Pancrazio on the 29th of June 1944 and of foreign delegations coming from communities having with the Municipality of Bucine twinning and solidarity relations (a rural district of Cameroon, the banished Saharawi people, the town of Lidice in Czech Republic). The Workshop aims at offering young people an important occasion to deal with and reflect on themes such as peace, social cohesion, civil rights and freedoms, moving from painful experiences lived by their fellow citizens and making a comparison with others still experienced by many populations in the third millennium.
At the end of the Workshop, young people having participated in it and their families take part in the March for Peace from San Pancrazio to Civitella in Val di Chiana, another village located in the hill opposite to San Pancrazio, were a cruel slaughter also took place in the morning of the 29th of June 1944.
For the year 2009 the European Commission co-financed the project submitted by the Municipality of Bucine “ The Memory of Future – San Pancrazio and Lidice from places of Remembrance to the future built by the new generations”.
The project foresees, besides the Workshop for Peace (open to the participation of 10 young people from Lidice – Czech Republic) and the March for Peace (with the participation of a delegation of 5 people from Lidice), the realization of a on-line Theatre Workshop, in which all Italian and European young people can take part.
The on-line theatre workshop will be based on themes as peace, active remembrance, respect of human rights, rights of citizenship.
Young people participating in the on-line workshop are asked to send to this website poetries, pictures, images, texts about the above-mentioned themes. These materials will be used to elaborate a theatre representation during the 2009 edition of the Workshop for Peace. This theatre product will be played for the first time in June 2009, at the end of the Workshop, and will then circulate in the countries of the partners taking part in the Lidice’s commemoration and in the States members of the European Charter of Rural Communities.
