THE MUNICIPALITY OF BUCINE

The Municipality of Bucine is located in the centre of Tuscany, where the Chianti's mountains touch the upper valley of the Arno river, along the course of the Ambra torrent and near important such as Florence, Arezzo and Siena. Its territory is made up of 18 villages and is characterized by a relevant extension of 131,11 square kilometers, that make it one of the most extended Municipalities of Italy. Bucine has a population of about 11.000 inhabitants. Since many years Municipality of Bucine has been carrying out projects about the education to peace, especially addressed to young people living not only in its territory, but in the whole Europe. In fact, Bucine represents Italy in the Charter of European Rural Communities (inserire link direttamente sulla denominazione), a bond of friendship uniting small rural communities of the European Union since 1989. From every member state of the EU, there is a rural community represented in the Charter.

The aim of the Charter is to participate in a complete way to the building of the European Union, based on the fundamental values of solidarity, cooperation, dialogue and exchange of experiences.
Since 1997 Municipality of Bucine has entered into a friendship and twinning pact with the refugee camp of Yraifia for offering a support to the self-determination of Western Sahara banished population.
Since 2005 Bucine is twinned with the Municipality of Bakou from Cameroon and started projects of decentralized cooperation. Finally, in 2007 Bucine concluded a friendship and solidarity pact with the Zapatista population (community of Roberto Barrios).
